I am anxious about how the Obama presidency will play out. I remember my first voting experience. I voted for Jimmy Carter. Why, you ask? Because I was young, rebellious, anti-establishment and basically didn't understand the issues.
This, for the most part, is what the Obama presidency is about. What could sound better than the promises he made. But many of his promises are not promises I want him to keep.
I don't want universal health care. I want to be able to choose my provider, my plan and how much I want to pay. I do not want the government making that choice for me. I want quality health care for my family. Not the aftermath of another government agency that runs in the red and cuts corners and limits my coverage. Ask anyone from Canada. They will tell you the "real truth" behind socialized medicine.
I also have issues with a "tax and spread" economy. I am, by nature, generous. I find great joy in helping through giving. I want to help those that are less fortunate and in need. The widows, the orphans, the homeless and the hungry. Young people with financial struggles and those that can't pay a bill this month or next month. I want to help support causes that I believe in. But I do not want the government telling me who I have to give to and what programs I have to support. This should be my "choice", not the government's. If you have ever seen the aftermath of Katrina first hand, you will see why "welfare" is a failed system. Welfare and other government entitlements? are what created the devastation and anger and division.
I worry about what will happen with the Supreme Court and lower court judges. I am sure that 99% of those that voted for Obama don't have a clue why this is so important. The Supreme Court will shape the future. Under this president, our hopes of ever abolishing abortion is lost. Our hopes for the sanctity of marriage will be lost. Our children will no longer need their parents for guidance and mentoring. The government will provide this for them. Constitutional rights are going to be under attack. Our moral fiber will erode at an alarming rate.
I am not sad, bitter and I am certainly not devastated. I am however going to draw myself and my family closer to God during these times. I am going to live as an example of how Christ wants me to live and not of how the "mainstream media" or Hollywood" wants me to live. And I will pray for those that are swayed by this incredible tool of Satan. The Bible says times will continue to get worse. Perhaps He wants us to draw to Him and not to our government.
I have to wonder, though. Why would Christians align themselves with people like Bill Mahr, Michael Moore and other celebrity and media elitists who truly believe that the God we worship is a fairy tale and that we are all weak minded fools for believing in Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour?
Are we, as Christians, moving "to the center" with our faith?
We are not to judge the world (the lost), but each other as Christians.
